The
Ritual ends when the Princess gives her Knight two firm squeezes on his
shoulder. There are two reasons why this works best in practice.
The reason for ending Ritual with two firm squeezes of the Knight's shoulder is that if the Knight is under the bedclothes he will not hear any verbal command.
A
couple who start to practice Ritual in warm weather will probably think
that it is silly to use a physical signal to end Ritual when a verbal
command is easy and feels so natural.
But the first time that a Knight gives Ritual with his head under the bedding his Princess will find that he can no longer easily hear her. It is now much more natural for her to give his shoulder two squeezes than for her to lift the bedding so that she can speak to her Knight.

Of course a verbal command can be used instead of the two squeezes anytime that a Princess knows that her Knight can hear her.
The reason for the signal being two firm squeezes on the shoulder is so that the signal is very different from any other touches, such as the Princess touching, stroking, or holding, her Knight's head.
When a Princess ends Ritual her Knight should move back up to his Princess's preferred position.
For the Knight the nicest way to end Ritual is for him to move up for a Devotional Cuddle or a Calm-Down cuddle. This is further discussed in the next section - Holding the Knight's hard Desire after Ritual.
If a Princess has her Knight end Ritual by moving up to a normal cuddle position then she always has the choice of whether or not to take hold of his erection, so each time she can decide whether this will be `just a cuddle´, or a Devotional Cuddle.
If having her Knight come all the way up to a normal cuddle position has her feeling that her Knight is demanding attention (and just the feel of his erection against her body may be enough for her to feel this), she can have her Knight only come up to the Be Small position.
Cuddling in the Be Small position has her Knight's erection much lower down and if it is touching her it is just against her leg, and so this will feel less demanding. And as she cannot reach his erection with her hand there is no expectation that this cuddle will turn into a Devotional Cuddle.
If she feels like giving him a Devotional Cuddle it is easy to say "come up". And if she just wants to relax she can leave her Knight in the Be Small position.
Each couple needs to work out what works best for them.
